Sacred Threshold, Tamara D. Kontrimas
The Sacred Threshold              Original Watercolor 14.25" x 16.25"

I began this painting out of a desire to express the crossing of boundaries that calls us to love beyond what we are able to understand.  This is not something we easily do because it requires relinquishing our own plans and designs and entering regions of our heart that scare us.  Often we submit to these invitations to deeper love only after anguish and suffering have broken us open and left us feeling helpless.  I was thinking primarily about the many "threshold events" in our lives through which we are given the opportunity to move from the security of the known to the new and mysterious life of the unknown.  As I sterted to more fully form the figure standing on the edge of new life; however, the presence of a beautiful young woman in our community who had recently died became manifest, and her presence gave the painting a more profound meaning than I had ever set out to capture.

This painting is dedicated to the memory of Kelly Christine Suter (1989-2006) whose presence in both her earthly life and her eternal life was and continues to be a breath of heaven to all.

May we all trust in the grace of the final threshold where:  Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, nor has it so much as dawned on man what God has prepared for those who love him.  1 Cor 2:9  Now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known.  But we know that we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is.  1 Jn 3:2  Then [we] shall be radiant at what [we] see, [our] hearts shall throb and overflow.
